Adding a second named driver so they are insured to drive the hire car usually carries a per-day fee. Driving a hire car when you are not on the agreement typically voids the insurance, so this is not a fee you can simply skip if two of you need to drive.

THE HONEST CAVEAT
Unlike some desk upsells, this one is not optional if two of you genuinely need to drive — driving uninsured is the false economy here.
