Many hotels set a fixed check-in time in the afternoon and check-out in the morning; guaranteeing your room earlier or holding it later can carry a fee, sometimes priced as a fraction of a night or a whole extra night. - For a very early arrival, storing bags for free and checking in at the normal time can beat paying for the extra hours.
THE HONEST CAVEAT
Free early/late is common when the hotel is not full — so the “fee” is really a charge for a guarantee. If your timing is flexible, you may never pay it.
